The St Regis Vommuli Resort

You know there those Instagram video posts, where a drone flies over a beautiful couple lounging on a mansion-sized overwater villa, surrounded by the bluest water that you probably ever seen? Chances are you’ve seen one of the St Regis Vommuli Resort villas. This resort is the epitome of luxury. Here, you’ll find 33 spacious beach villas, and 44 that are over-water which come with private terraces, pools, and everything you need to have a memorable stay. The pinnacle of the accommodation offerings has to be the John Jacob Astor estate. It’s not just one, but the selection of three of the largest over water villas in the Maldives that have been named after the founder – John Jacob Astor IV. This exquisite estate has a private gym, cinema room, a Spa in each of the bedrooms, three staff houses, a huge swimming pool, jacuzzi with two plunge pools, as well as a full kitchen. Of course there are butlers on hand to cater for your needs any time of day or night. The resort says that no request is too big or too small.

What stands out here is the thoughtful and unusual architecture. There is an over the water bar called ‘The Whale’ which has been designed and inspired by the whale shark. Here you can enjoy a huge selection of locally-sourced seafoods, delicious wine and tasty tapas. The Maldives resort prides itself in having one of the most luxurious yachts in the Maldives. It now owns a 66-foot Flybridge Azimut Yacht, which is available to take guests on a dolphin watching or sunset cruise. They also have traditional Dhoni boats, speed boats and catamarans, so you can Lounge over the waters of the Indian Ocean or head out on a snorkeling trip.

Velaa Private Island Maldives Resort

This Boutique Resort in the Noonu Atoll  really wows with its design and architectural flair. It has been built entirely using locally sourced materials, yet there is a contemporary twist which has been incorporated into the accommodation and restaurant designs. Many elements have actually been inspired by the sea turtles which frequent the waters around the island. Keen golfers will absolutely adore the Golf Academy which has been designed by Jose Maria Olazabal. Here you can tee-off on six greens, and there is even seven bunkers and a lake. There is also a PGA professional trainer there who can provide personalized tuition.

There are many accommodation options available to choose from – both on-land and over water. The two-bedroom beach houses are great idea if you’re traveling with families, and the stiled over water villas are a lovely option if you’re looking for a true romantic getaway. Then there are the private residences which can host up to 10 people. They come with their own private beach access as well as private gyms, and a spa room where you can enjoy pampering massage or facial whenever you wish.

But the true Crème de la crème has to be the romantic pool residence which is only accessible by boat. A stay in this overwater wonderland comes with a private chef, a 24-hour round-the-clock butler, a huge sun deck with sunken bar, and of course more amenities and mod cons than you can shake a stick at.

Unsurprisingly, the food at Veela Resort is exceptional, with the resort having some top chefs whip up their magic in the kitchen. That is very generous daily buffet breakfast offers everything you could ever want in the morning, including freshly squeezed juices, baked breads, cereals, meats, and an egg station. For Wood Fired pizzas head to Tori, or for some fancy some creative Asian Cuisine then Tavaru is sure to impress.

Veela Private Island also takes Eco responsibility very seriously and have a number of initiatives in place to ensure that they are a green-friendly operation. They also have the Agaru restaurant which actually sources sustainable and organic produce to cook up fresh meals with a culinary twist. You can also take a visit to The Wine Cellar, which is home to over 500 bins – the largest collection in the Maldives. When lazy days turn to night tonight you can shimmy your way over to Avi, a delightful poolside venue which has its own mixologist and DJ.

That’s plenty of activities to keep all ages entertained here, including tennis, squash, beach volleyball, and a 6m climbing wall. Kids are also welcome, and there is a Kids Club, kids pool and fun-packed playground as well as experienced babysitters to watch the younger ones while you enjoy a romantic dinner for two.

That includes a diving instructor, multiple chefs, a personal therapist, massage therapist and even a yoga instructor. The head chef will listen to your requests to create a dream menu for your vacation.

They really do go above and beyond to make any stay the vacation of a lifetime (and you’d kind of expect that considering the price tag – but more on that later). They will also set-up a Cinema on the beach, where you can watch your favorite flicks while lounging on daybed and sipping on mojitos.
